Keyword Density

The keyword density is the count of a given keyword phrase with in the text on a given page. For example if a page has 1,000 words of text and the keyword phrase appears 5 times, the keyword density would equal 0.05%.

In the early days of the search engines you were able to simply stuff your page with a keyword phrase over and over and your page would rise to the top. Unfortunately or maybe thankfully, the search engines have become a great deal more intelligent and now they will penalise any such tomfoolery.

What is the right keyword density? “Experts” constantly debate numbers but in honestly all you should concentrate on is writing quality content that people will want to read. The content will natural have your keywords in it as your keywords should be what your content is about. The search engines will then parse your text and note the natural feel.
